Banking and Commerce


T
he growth of banking institutions in the district was negligible in the pre-independence period. Even after independence branch expansion of commercial banks was sconce. The State Bank of India was the first to open its banking offices in the district. They were opened at Tikamgarh and jatara in 1959 and 160 receptively. But branch expansion activities in Tikamgarh gained momentum only after Nationalisation. This was followed by the Central Bank of India and Allahabd Bank. There are 9 Branches on every 1 Lakh population.

Lead Bank

Under the lead Bank Scheme, recommended by the Gadgil Study group National Credit Council and further elucidated by R.B.I., the State Bank Of India was appointed to function as the lead bank for Tikamgarh.

 

Gramin Bank (Rural Bank)

Bundelkhand Kshteriya Gramin Bank, Tikamgarh sponsored by State Bank of India was established on 26th March 1977. It was started for purpose of development of agriculture, trade, Commerce and other productive activities in the rural area by the granting credit and other facility.

 

Agriculture cooperative Societies

The main Object of the agriculture Co-operative societies is to borrow funds from tier member and other sources to be utilized for advancing loans to the member cultivators and promoting thrift. Following table shows the membership and their working capitals

District Central Cooperative Bank

The District Central Cooperative Bank was started in 1962 with headquarter at Tikamgarh. The area of operation of this bank is the whole district. It has branches at Niwari, Jatara, Baldeogarh, Prithvipur, Palera, Khargapur, Digora, Baragaon, Jeron, Tarichakalan, Mohangarh, Orchha. The bank undertakes almost all the functions of a commercial bank although its main function is to help the cultivators through crop loans. It is the hub around which the primary cooperative credit societies move.

 

District Cooperative Land Development Bank

The Tikamgarh District cooperative Land Development Bank was established in 1963 with headquarter at Tikamgarh. The area of operation of the Bank is the whole district. It has the branches at Jatara, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Lidhora. The principal object of the Bank is to meet medium and long term financial needs of cultivators. The Bank advances term loans to the cultivators for purchasing tractor, pump sets, Rahat, construction and repairing of wells and other land improvement work.
